Today we had to go to Rangat and tomorrow to Diglipur. The distance from Port Blair to Diglipur is 325 kilometers. Rangat falls in the middle almost.
Today at 5 am on 21st June I got up and ready. It gets bright here at 4:30 in the morning. All work also starts. We came out of the hotel after checkout and took the auto and reached the bus stand. Our bus w.as at 6.45 am and buses, ships or ferries here are more punctual than Indian trains.
Today we had to go to Rangat and tomorrow to Diglipur. The distance from Port Blair to Diglipur is 325 kilometers. Rangat falls in the middle almost. Before Rangat, there is a place called Baratang. Today, first we had to reach there. There are many places to see in Baratang. One can go from here to Limestone Caves by speed boat. From here one can also go to Parrot island to the other side. Here is also a mud volcano, eight kilometers away. Baratang is about a hundred kilometers away from Port Blair, which includes a check post named Jirkatang, 50 kilometers from Port Blair. There is no problem till this check post, but after this check post, there is a safe forest area up to 50 km i.e. Baratang which is for Jarawa tribals. These tribals are those natives of Andaman who have not been able to join the mainstream even today. They still live in primitive conditions and their main job is to hunt and eat it. There is a lot of attraction in tourists to see these Jarawa tribes living without clothes.
So when we reached the bus stand in the morning, first we had to withdraw money from the ATM. At the back of Gandhi's picture is the State Bank building which has not only one but five ATMs but only one of them was operational. We had withdrawn money so that there will not be a problem of money if ATMs in places like Diglipur or Rangat are not available or less available. So it is necessary to have the proper amount of cash with you.
After withdrawing money from the ATM, we first drank coconut water. And eaten cream as well, so breakfast is also done. I had already told you that we got only the last three tickets, so our seat was on the backside. The road we had going to is Andaman Trunk Road and National Highway 4 but its width is only worth a bus and the road is not even machine-built. Thankfully, there is no traffic, so the bus moves at full speed.
Got one relief also. There were no passengers in the back seat so we could sit comfortably. Sandeep Bhai became friends with a local on the bus and we all got to know a lot of things. By the way, let me tell you that every person here is ready to tell you. If you ask one thing, ten answers can also come. The people here were so helpful.
In 2 hours we reached a police checkpoint. There had time in going to convey. We got one more benefit by going to the roadways bus that was we did not need to register anywhere because we had already given our IDs at the time of making the ticket. In convey, our bus parked at the forefront even after coming late. These poor people also benefited. When we all got off the bus to spend the time we looked around. There was a temple yea nearby and there were shops of Vada and Samosas with Chai Pakodi. As soon as I wanted to see the Pakodas on a barrow, so the shopkeeper who was very busy said - Take, whatever you won't just take it and eat as it's your shop. I could not understand that if this shopkeeper had been here, he would have fought that why did you put your hands? I and Jat Devta ate pakoda and sambar vada and Rajesh Ji ate the puri as well as we purchased two liters bottle of water, all these in just a hundred rupees.
