Kayalana Lake is a prime attraction of the city of Jodhpur. Pratap Singh in 1872 built this lake artificially. The lake is enormous, and it is said that it’s spread over 84 square kilometers. The water in this lake comes from the elephant canal. The beauty of the lake enhances its banks. It connects the Elephant Canal to the Indira Gandhi Canal and the availability of drinking water to the city of Jodhpur depends to a large extent on this lake.
After visiting to the Mehrangarh Fort and roaming there, I came out on the road. Standing at the gate of the fort, I asked the auto drivers about Sursagar Lake, one of the two auto drivers told that water is not there in Sursagar Lake. After that, when I asked about Lake Kayalana, most of the auto drivers said that we can go there if you book the auto full. I left them and started waiting for the same auto in which I had come here. It was probably an auto number 35. Everyone from the local transporters at Jaipur will give you a particular number. The number can be of a magic car, a minibus or a big bus either.
The magic car of the same number arrived in a while, but he told me that he is not going to the Kaylana lake. He told me that he would take me off at the next intersection road from where the magic bus of such a number can be received for Kayalana Lake. The same thing happened and after that, the auto left me at Kayalana intersection. Kaylana Lake was about a kilometer on the right hand from here. When I asked the other auto driver standing there, he dealt to take me from here to the lake and back after showing the lake for INR 50.
The Mehrangarh Fort is at a height and I had reached the plain level on the Kayalana intersection. I reached the intersection in ten and ten that is 20 INR. Now, the auto driver took 50 INR from me to take me to the lake. On the way to the lake, there is another small lake with a hotel on its shore. I thought to visit it while returning from Kaylana lake. The driver stopped on the lake and I walked to the shore for a while. The couples come here to spend a lot of time. There are plenty of birds on the lake and on its banks. After spending some time here, I returned. On my way back, I asked the auto driver to stop and took photos of the lake near the Hotel Lake View Palace. Birds were also in large numbers here, but the hotel was being used as a marriage bureau, so I did not go inside.
On the way, the auto driver told me that a zoo is being built here which will start in about a month and it will keep many animals. It will be made like an animal sanctuary. The auto driver took me back to Kayalana Chowk and when I asked him which bus shall be taken to go to the Umaid Bhawan Palace, he told me to sit in the car of such-and-such number. That guy didn’t even once say that I shall take you in my auto and he also kindly told me the bus number and to get off at Ratnada circle and get another bus from there.
I stood there waiting for the bus when I saw a stall on which I saw Kabuli being sold. I saw it in many places, but I could not understand what Kabuli was.
I saw the crowd there, I went there and saw that it was a mix of rice and curry that could be eaten quickly. I also got a half plate for myself. There were many things like soybean and onion on a plate of just 10 INR.
I got the a from here, I took it. The bus conductor told us that Ratnada Circle is our last stop and it will take more than 1 hour to reach there. The local buses here have seats like school buses, the seats are built around so that there can be a lot of passengers in the middle area. After one hour this bus landed at Ratnada Circle, there was another bus standing there. But there were no passengers on this bus and I had to wait. Just a kilometer after moving, the gate of Umaid Bhavan arrived, and I landed there after paying five rupees fare. Umaid Bhavan is about a kilometer from here, for which I had to walk.
